Dear Maeve publishes romance fiction for adults. This page explains what that includes, what it never includes, and how to tell us if something looks wrong.

Who the stories are for

The stories are for readers aged 18 or over. Before opening a chapter you confirm that you are 18 or older. This is a self-declaration; we do not verify age.

What we publish

Romance between adult characters, including mature themes such as danger, grief, crime and difficult pasts. Every story carries a heat level:

  • Sweet: longing and kisses; intimacy stays off the page.
  • Warm: sensual tension; intimacy fades to black.
  • Steamy: heightened sensuality on the page, never explicit.

Nothing we publish is sexually explicit.

What we never publish

  • Anyone under 18 in a romantic or sexual context, or characters presented as minors.
  • Incest, including step-family, adoptive or foster relationships.
  • Sexual activity without clear consent, or with anyone unable to consent.
  • Sexual violence, exploitation or coercion presented as romantic or rewarding.
  • Bestiality.
  • Sexual or romantic fiction about real, identifiable people.
  • Explicit descriptions of sex acts.

Romantic leads are adults with a stated age of 21 or older. A story cannot be published until its romantic leads are confirmed to be 21 or older.

Content warnings

Themes some readers may want to avoid, such as violence, grief or kidnapping, are listed under “Content warnings” on a story’s page before you start reading. Warnings cover the story as a whole.

What readers can add

Members can rate a story from one to five stars. Readers cannot post reviews, comments or other text.

Reporting a concern

If you think something breaks this policy, or uses material you own, email dearmaeve.letters@gmail.com (“Report a concern” at the bottom of every page), naming the story and chapter. We remove content that breaks this policy.

Changes

We may update this policy; the date at the top shows when it last changed. See also our terms and privacy policy.
