Privacy policy

Last updated 15 September 2026

This policy explains what information Dear Maeve collects, why, who else handles it, how long it is kept, and the choices you have.

Who is responsible

Dear Maeve is responsible for the personal information collected here, and is also the data protection contact. For privacy questions or requests, email dearmaeve.letters@gmail.com.

What we collect

  • Account. Your email address. If you sign in with Google, your name, profile picture and the sign-in tokens Google issues.
  • Signing in. The one-time codes we email you, and for each signed-in session the IP address and browser details.
  • Age confirmation. That you confirmed you are 18 or older, and when.
  • Reading. Your place in each story, which chapters you opened, saved stories, star ratings, and your text size and theme.
  • Membership. Your plan, status, renewal dates, payment and refund amounts, the story or link you subscribed from, and a record of the renewal terms you agreed to at checkout (the wording, terms version and time). Card details go to Stripe; we never see them.
  • Messages. Anything you send us by email.

Why we use it

  • To run your account and membership and show the chapters you have access to.
  • To take payment, handle failed payments and refunds, and keep the records tax law requires.
  • To keep the service secure, for example by limiting repeated sign-in attempts.
  • To count, in aggregate, how stories are read, so we can improve the library.
  • To send you sign-in codes and your membership confirmation, and to reply when you contact us.

We do not sell your information or use it for advertising.

Payments: Stripe and Link

Memberships are sold through Link. Stripe and Sold through Link, LLC receive your payment and billing details to process payment, calculate tax, prevent fraud and provide receipts and support. They handle that information under Stripe’s own privacy policy. Stripe tells us your email address and subscription details, and sends us payment events.

Other companies that handle your information

  • Vercel hosts the website.
  • Neon stores our database.
  • Resend sends our emails.
  • Google provides “Continue with Google” sign-in and our support inbox.

They handle information for us under their terms with us. They, and Stripe, may process it in the United States and other countries outside Singapore and outside where you live.

Cookies and browser storage

  • Needed for the site to work: your sign-in session, your 18+ confirmation, your text size and theme, and, if you read without an account, your reading progress kept in your browser.
  • Counting: a cookie that stops a chapter read being counted twice (about a day) and a campaign cookie when you arrive from one of our links (30 days). We do not set these for visitors in the UK or the European Economic Area.
  • Stripe sets its own cookies in the checkout window for payment and fraud prevention.

We do not use advertising or third-party analytics cookies.

How long we keep it

  • Account and reading information: for as long as your account exists.
  • When you delete your account in Account, you are signed out everywhere and Google sign-in tokens are removed straight away. After 30 days your email, name and picture are replaced and your reading progress, history, saved stories and preferences are deleted. Star ratings stay only as part of each story’s overall rating.
  • Sign-in codes, expired sessions and sign-in attempt records: deleted about a day after they expire.
  • Membership and payment records, including your renewal agreement: kept for as long as Singapore tax law requires business records to be kept (currently five years from the relevant year of assessment), then deleted.
  • Emails you send us: kept while needed to deal with your request.
  • You cannot delete your account while a membership is still renewing. Cancel it first.

Your choices and rights

You can change your email and reading preferences, and delete your account, in your account. You can ask us for a copy of your information or to correct it by emailing dearmaeve.letters@gmail.com. If we need more than 30 days to respond, we will tell you when to expect a reply.

If you are unhappy with how we handled your information, contact us first. You can also complain to the Personal Data Protection Commission in Singapore or the data protection authority where you live.

Children

Dear Maeve is for adults aged 18 or over.

Changes

We will update this policy when what we collect or how we use it changes, and change the date at the top. See also our terms of service.
