On Monday Talia translated the last provisional note assigned under her summit contract and corrected a comma no minister would ever notice. The final safety article still needed independent review. She returned her badge to Runa, confirmed the invoice, and declined a six-month palace post the secretariat had suggested on the strength of her work.
“I could use your judgment here,” Runa said.
“My judgment works better when I can leave.”
“I know.” Runa signed the closing certificate. “If anyone implies you refused because of him, send them to me.”
“Is that an offer of professional support?”
“A correction of the record.” Runa removed Talia’s name from the internal rota, then turned the screen so she could see the entry. Contract concluded, obligations fulfilled. “You earned it. I can at least spell it correctly.”
