Hugh Tennant did not ambush her. That was the part Meera found hardest to forgive afterwards: he was scrupulous, and polite, and he gave her every chance.
He rang the studio line at 4:40 on a Thursday and Faye put him through with her eyebrows halfway up her forehead.
“Ms Anand, my name’s Hugh Tennant, I write for the Review. I’m working on a piece about private capital in Sydney development and I’d like to put some things to you and give you a chance to respond. Is now convenient?”
“Now is fine.” It was not fine. She pulled her notebook across and wrote Tennant, 4.40 at the top of a clean page, because if she was going to be interviewed she was going to have a record of it.
“Thank you. First: is the principal investor behind Bellweather Tower Julian Harrow, of Meridian Line Holdings?”
